Սուրբ Սարգսի տոնը և նրա կերպարը հայ միջնադարյան արվեստում

Համաքրիստոնեական աշխարհի սրբերի դասին է կարգված Սբ. Սարգիս զորավարը: Վերջինս, իր որդու՝ Մարտիրոսի, և 14 քաջ մարտիկների հետ նահատակվել է հանուն քրիստոնեական հավատքի:

Որպես հմուտ ռազմիկ Մեծն Կոնստանդիանոս կայսեր կողմից Հայաստանին սահմանակից Կապադովկիայում նշանակվել է իշխան և սպարապետ: Բացի հիանալի ռազմիկ լինելուց, Սբ. Սարգիսը նաև հիանալի քարոզիչ էր և օգտվելով իրեն տրված հնարավորություններից, քանդում էր իր իշխանության տակ գտնվող մեհյաններն ու կառուցում եկեղեցիներ՝ նպաստելով քրիստոնեական հավատի տարածմանը:

Խուսափելով Հռոմի Հուլիանոս Ուրացող կայսեր կողմից իրականացվող քրիստոնեական եկեղեցու հանդեպ հալածանքից (360-363), Սարգիսը աստվածային հայտնություն ստանալով, հեռանում է կայսրության սահմաններից և ապաստանում է Արշակ Բ թագավորի արքունիքում [3, էջ 53]:Տեղեկանալով, որ Հուլիանոսկայսրը մեծ զորքով շարժվում է Պարսկաստանի վրա, հայոց արքան իր երկիրը հարձակման վտանգից զերծ պահելու համար, Սարգսին առաջարկում է ծառայությանանցնել Շապուհի մոտ: Վերջինս, մեծ խանդավառությամբ ընդունում է Սարգսին՝ նշանակելով զորագնդերի հրամանատար:Պարսիկ զինվորները, տեսնելով Սարգսի փայլուն զորավարի ունակությունները, նրա աղոթքներով Տիրոջ գործած հրաշքները, հրաժարվում էին հեթանոսությունից և դառնում քրիստոնյա: Սակայն Շապուհը պահանջում է պաշտել կրակը և զոհ մատուցել: Սարգիսը անմիջապես մերժում է Շապուհի պահանջը և ի պատասխան նրա՝ կործանում բագինը:Զայրացած ամբոխը հարձակվում է Սարգսի և նրա որդու վրա: Նահատակության պսակը առաջինն ընդունում է զորավարի որդին՝ Մարտիրոսը, իսկ Սբ. Սարգիսը բանտարկվում է և երկար ժամանակ աներեր մնալով իր հավատքի մեջ՝ գլխատվում է: Նահատակվելուց հետո Սբ. Սարգսի մարմնի վրա լույս է ծագում:

Սբ. Սարգսի պաշտամունքը Հայաստանում տարածվեց 5-րդ դարից սկսած, երբ Մեսրոպ Մաշտոցը այստեղ բերեց Ս. Սարգսի մասունքները [1, էջ 490]: Մաշտոցը այդ մասունքների վրա հիմնեց Ուշիի Սբ. Սարգիս եկեղեցին և համանուն վանքը (նկ.1):Հարկ է նշել նաև, որ Տեկորի տաճարը կրում է «Սբ. Սարգիսի վկայարան» անվանումը [2. էջ 46]:

Ժողովուրդը հանձին Սբ. Սարգսի` տեսնում էր զորակցի, թույլի և ոտնահարվածի պաշտպանի, քրիստոնեական հավատքի, մարդկային սիրո և նվիրումի համար պայքարի ելած քաջ զինվորի: Հայ ժողովուրդը սիրել և դարերի ընթացքում հղկել, ազնվացրել է նրա կերպարը`նրան օժտելով համամարդկային և աստվածային շնորհներով: Սբ.Սարգսի տոնը Ամենայն Հայոց Գարեգին Բ հայրապետի տնօրինությամբ հռչակվել է Երիտասարդների օրհնության օր:

Սբ. Սարգսի վարքը հայտնի էր և՛ հույներին, և՛ վրացիներին,սակայն այլ երանգավորմամբ:Հունական պատումի համաձայն Սարգիս զորավարը փախցնում է հույն արքայադստերը և սպանում նրա փրկության համար հասած թագավորի մերձավորներին, իսկ վրացական տարբերակում` Սարգսի բարձրացրած բուքով խեղդվում է մի նորապսակ զույգ: Այս տվյալները հաստատում են, որ Սարգիսը ստացել է հայկական ազգային սրբի նշանակություն:Հայկական պատկերագրության համաձայն, Սբ. Սարգիսը գործում է որդու` Մարտիրոսի հետ, ինչը բացակայում է այլալեզու աղբյուրներում: Սարգսի պատմությունը հայկական տարբերակում հարստացած նորանոր մանրամասներով, որոնք և արտացոլվեցին սուրբ զորավարին նվիրված պատկերագրության մեջ. հաճախ ներկայացվում է վիշապի կամ որևէ այլ կենդանու նիզակահարելիս իր որդու` Մարտիրոսի հետ, երբեմն առանց նրա [4, էջ 81]:
