Անգլիացի գրող և լրագրող Պիտեր Հիթչենսը Daily Mail պարբերականում հրապարակված հոդվածում վերհիշել է հեռավոր 1990-ին ՌԴ-ում դիմավորած Սուրբ Ծնունդը՝ ներկայացնելով մի շարք ուշագրավ դրվագներ:

Հեղինակը նկատում է, որ երբ ինքն ընտանիքի հետ տեղափոխվել է Մոսկվա ապրելու, Միխայիլ Գորբաչովի ղեկավարման դարաշրջանի ավարտն էր և Սուրբ Ծնունդը նշելն այլևս արգելված չէր:

Անգլիացին վերհիշում է, որ իրենց համար բավականին դժվար էր այն ժամանակվա Մոսկվայում կաթոլիկ Սուրբ Ծննդին նախապատրաստվելը: Նա ընդգծում է, որ ամենահեշտ լուծելին տոնածառի հարցն էր, իսկ տոնական ընթրիքը, ըստ նրա, «առանձնահատուկ, սենտիմենտալ տրիումֆ էր»:

«Մոսկվան 1990 թվականին դեռևս ասիական և կովկասյան կայսրության մայրաքաղաքն էր։ Կինս արդեն սովորել էր հմուտ բանակցություններ վարել Մոսկվայի հանցագործներով լի շուկաներում... Սուրբ Ծննդյան պուդինգի համար կինս շուկայում գտել էր Կասպից ծովի ափերից բերված համեղ չրեր, ինչպես նաև մուգ, թունդ կոնյակ՝ Հայաստանից։ Սրանք ավելի քիչ արդիականացված աշխարհի հնաոճ, ավելի ուժեղ համերն էին, որոնք հավանաբար ծանոթ էին մեր տատիկներին ու պապիկներին: Դա, անկասկած, լավագույն ամանորյա պուդինգն էր, որը ես երբևէ կերել եմ»,-վերհիշում է անգլիացին՝ առանձնահատուկ շեշտելով նաև վրացական գինիների համը:

Հիթչենսը նշում է, որ ավանդական հնդկահավի փոխարեն Մոսկվայում սուրբծննդյան ընթրիքի համար հնարավոր էր եղել միայն սագ գնել:

«Կյանքումս ավելի համեղ սագ կերած չկայի»,-գրում է հեղինակը՝ հավելելով, որ խորհրդային շամպայնը փորձել էր ընդամենը մեկ անգամ և դա բավական էր, որ համարեր, որ այդ խմիչքը կարող են փորձել միայն ամենահուսահատները կամ ամենախիզախները:
