Երբ մարդը հասկանում է, որ որոշ իրադարձություններ կյանքում անհնար է բացատրել մատերալիստի (նյութապաշտի) տեսանկյունից, նա բացում է իր հոգին նուրբ հարցերում։ Տեսնելու կարողությունը և օգտագործելու նշանները, միանգամից չեն տրվում։
