Երգ, որը մտավ պատմության մեջ և ճակատագրական դարձավ. ինչպես Մերիլին Մոնրոն կատարեց «Happy Birthday» երգը Քենեդիի համար

Madison Square Garden–ի բեմ բարձրանալուց մի քանի րոպե առաջ, որտեղ Մերիլին Մոնրոն պետք է կատարեր «Happy Birthday» երգը նախագահ Ջոն Ֆ. Քենեդիի համար, նա մտածեց. «Ես կերգեմ այս երգը, նույնիսկ եթե դա վերջին բանն է, որ ես երբևէ կանեմ»։

Մոնրոն միջոցառմանը բերել էր նաև իր նախկին աներոջը՝ Իզիդոր Միլլերին, դրամատուրգ Արթուր Միլլերի հորը, որից նա ամուսնալուծվել էր 1961 թվականին։ «Նա Ամերիկա էր եկել որպես ներգաղթյալ, և ես կարծում էի, որ սա նրա կյանքի ամենամեծ բանը կլինի», - ասել է նա։ «Ես ուզում էի, որ նա կարողանա պատմել իր թոռներին այդ մասին»։

Հաջորդող ընդունելության ժամանակ կինոպրոդյուսեր Արթուր Քրիմի տանը Մոնրոն նույնպես նստած էր Ջոն Քենեդիի և Ռոբերտ Քենեդիի կողքին։

Լրագրող Մերիմանի հետ մի շարք հանդիպումների ժամանակ (որոնցից առաջինը տևել է չորս ժամ և սկսվել է շամպայնի բաժակով, իսկ երկրորդը ձգվել է մինչև գրեթե կեսգիշեր, երբ դերասանուհին առաջարկել է սթեյք պատրաստել, բայց պարզել, որ տանը ուտելիք չկա), Մոնրոն անկեղծորեն խոսել է փառքի մասին. «Քեզնից անընդհատ կտորներ են պոկում»։ Իր՝ որպես սեքս-խորհրդանիշի կարգավիճակի վերաբերյալ նա նշել է. «Եթե ես լինելու եմ խորհրդանիշ, ապա կնախընտրեի լինել սեքսի խորհրդանիշ, քան այն բաների, որոնք մարդիկ սիրում են լինել»։

Հարցազրույցը հրապարակվել է Life ամսագրի 1962 թվականի օգոստոսի 3-ի համարում։ Ընդամենը երկու օր անց՝ օգոստոսի 5-ի առավոտյան, Մոնրոյին մահացած են գտել իր մահճակալում։ Մահվան պատճառը որոշվել է որպես «սուր բարբիտուրատային թունավորում»։ Պաշտոնապես այն որակվել է որպես հնարավոր ինքնասպանություն, սակայն նրա մահվան հանգամանքները մնում են վիճաբանության և տեսությունների առարկա։ Հունիսի 1-ին նշվող նրա 100-ամյակի նախօրեին նրա խոսքերը և Ալան Գրանտի կողմից արված հազվագյուտ լուսանկարները Մոնրոյին բացահայտում են որպես բազմաշերտ անհատականություն՝ միաժամանակ խելացի, իրոնիկ, զգուշավոր և խոցելի։

Լուսանկարիչը հետագայում հիշել է. «Նա ավելի նիհար և փխրուն էր, քան ես սպասում էի»։ Նա ժպտաց, բայց ես նրա մեջ տխրություն զգացի, որը շուտով դուրս կգար։
