Երկրի ուղեծրում կհայտնվի արևային էլեկտրակայան

Բրիտանական Space Solar ստարտափը պայմանագիր է կնքել Reykjavik Energy ընկերության հետ՝ տիեզերական արևային էլեկտրակայանի գործարկման համար: 30 ՄՎտ հզորությամբ ցուցադրական կայանը նախատեսում են գործարկել մինչև 2030 թվականը:

Արևային էներգիան խոստանում է մաքուր էներգիա, սակայն ունի զգալի թերություններ, հատկապես կախվածությունը եղանակից և ցերեկվա և գիշերվա ցիկլից: Արդեն 1970-ականներից առաջարկվում էր լուծել այս խնդիրները՝ տեղափոխելով կոլեկտորները գեոսինխրոնային ուղեծիր: 35,786 կմ բարձրության վրա կայանը կստանա մշտական արևային լույս, որը չէր արգելափակվում մթնոլորտով կամ ամպերով: Մեծ զանգվածային արևային վահանակներ օգտագործելով՝ լույսը կվերածվի էլեկտրականության, իսկ հետո՝ միկրոալիքների, որոնք ուղղվում են Երկրին և նորից վերածվում էլեկտրականության: Տեսականորեն երեք նման կայաններ կարող էին ապահովել ամբողջ մոլորակը էներգիայով:

Տեսականորեն այս գաղափարը շատ գրավիչ է թվում, սակայն գործնականում կան էական խնդիրներ: Ուղեծրային կոլեկտորները կզբաղեցնեն հսկայական տարածք, իսկ ընդունող ալեհավաքը Երկրի վրա կունենա Մանհեթենի չափ տարածք: Նույնիսկ նվազագույն ծախսերի դեպքում, նման կայանի կառուցումը և գործարկումը կարժենա աստղաբաշխական գումարներ, պահանջելով տիեզերական արտադրական ենթակառուցվածքների ստեղծում: Կայանը պետք է աշխատի ինքնուրույն մինչև 30 տարի, բայց կպահանջի կանոնավոր սպասարկում: Բացի այդ, արևային վահանակների օգտագործումը ենթադրում է էներգիայի բազմաստիճան փոխարկումներ, ինչը նվազեցնում է արդյունավետությունը: NASA-ի գնահատականներով, նման էներգիան կարժենա 12-80 անգամ ավել, քան ցամաքային վերականգնվող էներգիան:

Այս խնդիրները չեն խանգարել Կալիֆոռնիական Տեխնոլոգիական Ինստիտուտին փորձարկումներ կատարել ուղեծրից էներգիայի փոխանցման ոլորտում, և Space Solar-ը բավականին վստահ է իր վրա, որպեսզի փորձի կառուցել ցուցադրական կայան իսլանդական Transition Labs մասնավոր կլիմայական նախաձեռնության շրջանակներում: Ընկերությունը պնդում է, որ մինչև 2036 թվականը կկարողանա մեծացնել իր ցուցադրական կայանի հզորությունը մինչև ԳՎտ և այժմ փնտրում է լրացուցիչ վայրեր ընդունիչները տեղադրելու համար Իսլանդիայում, Կանադայում և Հյուսիսային Ճապոնիայում:
