Սիրիայում Բաշար ալ Ասադի իշխանության տապալումից հետո հաղթանակ տոնողների շարքում են նաև նրանք, որոնց ընտանիքիների ադամները, ընկերները, տևական ժամանակ եղել են անազատության մեջ՝ փակված լինելով բանտերում և այնտեղ կտտանքների ենթարկվելով: Այս մասին գրում է Daily Mail-ը՝ մանրամասնելով, որ խոսքն այն բանտերի  մասին է, որտեղ, արևմտյան մամուլի պնդմամբ, Ասադի վարչակարգն ընդդիմադիր ուժերի ներկայացուցիչներին, այլախոհներին, նրանց հարազատներին կտտանքների է ենթարկել:

Այս առումով առանձնացվել է Դամասկոսից ոչ հեռու գտնվող տխրահռչակ Սեդնայա բանտը, որը հաճախ կոչում էին «Մարդկանց սպանդանոց» և որը համարվում էր դաժան կտտանքների և մահապատիժների իրականացման օջախ:

Այժմ, երբ այս բանտերից ազատվածները վերամիավորվել են իրենց ընտանիքների հետ և սահմռկեցուցիչ մանրամասներ են պատմում ճաղերի հետևում կյանքի մասին, կտտանքների կազմակերպիչները կարող են շուտով պատասխանատվության ենթարկվել:

Սիրիայում Ասադի իշխանությունը տապալած «Հայաթ Թահրիր ալ Շամ» խմբավորման առաջնորդ Աբու Մուհամեդ ալ Գոլանին խոստացել է հետապնդել պաշտոնյաներին, անվտանգության ուժերի ներկայացուցիչներին և բանակի սպաներին, որոնք «տանջել են» սիրիացի ժողովրդին: Նա բացահայտ հայտարարել է, որ պատասխանատվության կենթարկի նրանց, ովքեր մասնակից են եղել սիրիացիների դեմ «պատերազմական հանցագործություններին»:

«Մենք կհրապարակենք ցուցակ, որը կներառի սիրիացի ժողովրդի խոշտանգումներում ներգրավված ամենաբարձրաստիճան պաշտոնյաների անունները: Պարգևներ կտրամադրվեն նրանց, ովքեր տեղեկություններ կտրամադրեն ռազմական հանցագործություններում ներգրավված բանակի և անվտանգության բարձրաստիճան սպաների մասին», - ասվում է Գոլանիի հայտարարության մեջ:

Այս բանտերում պահվել են ոչ միայն ընդդիմադիր զինյալները, այլևս մտավորականներ, ակտիվիստներ և սովորական քաղաքացիական անձինք. բոլորը ենթարկվել են նողկալի վերաբերմունքի, շատ դեպքերում՝ մի քանի տասնամյակ:

Մարդու իրավունքների սիրիական ցանցը պնդում է, որ 2011 թվականի մարտին սիրիական հեղափոխության սկզբից ի վեր ավելի քան 157,000 մարդ, այդ թվում՝ 5,274 երեխա և 10,221 կին ձերբակալվել և անհետացել է: Նշվում է, որ այդ ընթացքում խոշտանգումներից մահացել է ավելի քան 15,000 մարդ:
