Հայտնաբերվել են Հյուսիսային Ամերիկայի խոշոր հնագույն կենդանիների մնացորդներ

Վաշինգտոնի Սմիթսոնյան բնական պատմության ազգային թանգարանի գիտնականները հայտնաբերել են հյուսիսամերիկյան խոշոր կաթնասունների մնացորդներ, որոնք ապրել են 50000 տարի առաջ՝ վերջին սառցե դարաշրջանի վերջում: Հետազոտության արդյունքները հրապարակվել են Frontiers in Mammal Science ամսագրում:

Պալեոնտոլոգներն օգտագործել են ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry)՝ թանգարանի հավաքածուի ոսկորներում կոլագենի վերլուծության համար: Ոսկորները հայտնաբերվել են Կոլորադոյի հինգ հնագիտական ​​վայրերից, որոնք թվագրվում են ուշ պլեյստոցեն և վաղ հոլոցեն (մոտ 13,000-10,000 տարի առաջ): Մնացորդները խիստ մասնատված են եղել, ինչը անհնարին է դարձրել դրանք որևէ տեսակի կամ դասակարգման խմբի վերագրելը` օգտագործելով ավանդական կենդանահնագիտական ​​մեթոդները:
