Այսօր ճարտարապետ Ալեքսանդր Թամանյանի ծննդյան օրն է

Հայ ճարտարապետ , ՀԽՍՀ ժողովրդական ճարտարապետ Ալեքսանդր Հովհաննեսի Թամանյանը ծնվել է 1878թ. մարտի 4-ին (մարտի 16) Եկատերինոդարում (այժմ` Կրասնոդար): Ալեքսանդր Թամանյանը սովորել է ծննդավայրի ռեալական դպրոցում:
1904թ. ավարտել է Սանկտ Պետերբուրգի Թագավորական գեղարվեստի ակադեմիայի բարձրագույն գեղարվեստական ուսումնարանը: Թամանյանի առաջին աշխատանքը Սանկտ Պետերբուրգի Սբ. Կատարինե հայկական եկեղեցու վերակառուցումն էր (1906թ.):

Նրա նախագծով 1907-1913թթ. կառուցված շենքերից ուշագրավ են Կոչուբեյի առանձնատունը Ցարսկոյե Սելոյում (այժմ՝ քաղաք Պուշկին), Շչերբատովի տունը Մոսկվայում (արժանացել է Մոսկվայի քաղաքային դումայի ոսկե մեդալի), Մոսկվա-Կազան երկաթուղու հիվանդանոցային համալիրը Պրոզորովկա ավանում (այժմ՝ Կրատովո):

1914թ. Թամանյանն ընտրվել է որպես Սանկտ Պետերբուրգի Գեղարվեստի ակադեմիայի ակադեմիկոս, 1917թ.` ակադեմիայի խորհրդի նախագահ (փոխնախագահի իրավունքով): 1919թ. տեղափոխվել է Երևան, իսկ 1921թ.՝ Իրան (Թավրիզում հիմնադրել է գեղարվեստի ստուդիա), 1923 թ. հրավիրվել է Հայաստան:

Նրա ճարտարապետական առաջին աշխատանքը Երևանի գլխավոր հատակագիծն է (150 հզ. բնակչի համար), որը դարձել է մայրաքաղաքի հետագա հատակագծերի հիմքը: Թամանյանը գոտևորել է քաղաքը, նշել նրա հորինվածքային կենտրոնն ու առանցքները՝ ներկայիս Հանրապետության հրապարակը, Գլխավոր պողոտան, Օղակաձև զբոսայգին:

1934թ. ճարտարապետն սկսել է «Մեծ Երևանի» (500 հզ. բնակչի համար) հատակագծումը, որը մնացել է անավարտ: 1925-1933թթ. Թամանյանը կազմել է նաև Գյումրիի, Վաղարշապատի, Ստեփանակերտի, Նոր Բայազետի (այժմ՝ Գավառ), Ախտայի (այժմ՝ Հրազդան) և այլ բնակավայրերի հատակագծերը:

Նրա նախագծով Երևանում կառուցվել են բժշկական ինստիտուտի անատոմիկումի, անասնաբուծական-անասնաբուժական, ֆիզիոթերապևտիկ, աստղադիտարանի, հանրային (այժմ` Ազգային) գրադարանի շենքերը և այլն:

Թամանյանի գլուխգործոցները՝ ՀՀ Կառավարական տունը և Օպերայի ու բալետի թատրոնի (սկզբում կոչվել է Ժողտուն) շենքը, առանձնանում են իրենց հորինվածքային բարձր հատկանիշներով: Թատրոնի շենքը երկդահլիճ է` մեկ ընդհանուր բեմով, ըստ մտահղացման` դահլիճների և բեմի փոխակերպման հնարավորությամբ:

2001թ. Հայաստանի ճարտարապետների միությունը սահմանել է Թամանյանի անվան ոսկե մեդալ: Նրա կառույցներում ճարտարապետական ձևերը ճշմարիտ են և օրգանական՝ պայմանավորված հիմնական շինանյութի՝ քարի հատկություններով:

Քաղաքի մասերի, հանգույցների և անսամբլների փոխադարձ կապն ու պայմանավորվածությունը Թամանյանը մշակել է քաղաքաշինության պահանջների իր ընկալումով և սկզբունքներով: Կազմելով Երևանի գլխավոր հատակագիծը՝ Թամանյանը նախատեսել է քաղաքի հիմնական անսամբլները, դրանց տարածական լուծումները:

Նրա ստեղծագործության ազդեցությամբ ստեղծվել է ճարտարապետության մի դպրոց, որն իրավամբ կոչվում է թամանյանական: Ալեքսանդր Թամանյանը մահացել է 1936թ. փետրվարի 20-ին Երևանում:
