Ադրբեջանի ԱԳՆ-ն Հայաստանում Իրանի դեսպան Մեհդի Սոբհանիի հայտարարությունն անվանել է «սադրանք»։ Գերատեսչությունը հայտարարել է, որ դեսպանի խոսքերը «վնասում են Բաքվի և Թեհրանի հարաբերությունները։ Ադրբեջանի ԱԳՆ գնահատմամբ, Սոբհանիի հայտարարությունն ուղղված է Ադրբեջանի «տարածքային ամբողջականության և անկախության դեմ»:

Մինչ այդ CivilNet-ին տրված հարցազրույցում դեսպանը մասնավորապես նշել էր, որ Իրանը հանդիսանում է Արցախի բնակիչների օրինական իրավունքների ապահովման կողմնակից։ Նա, մասնավորապես նշել է, որ ղարաբաղյան հարցում Թեհրանը, միջազգային նորմերին համապատասխան, ճանաչում է ինչպես Հայաստանի, այնպես էլ Ադրբեջանի տարածքային ամբողջականությունը։ «Բայց դա չի նշանակում, որ այնտեղ ապրող մարդկանց իրավունքները պետք է ոտնահարվեն։ Մենք կարծում ենք, որ Ղարաբաղի ժողովրդի իրավունքները պետք է ապահովվեն, նրանք պետք է հնարավորություն ունենան իրացնել իրենց իրավունքները։ Սա իրողություն է, որը ոչ ոք, այդ թվում՝ Ադրբեջանը, չի կարող անտեսել»,- ասել է դեսպանը։

Դիվանագետի խոսքով՝ «այն երկիրը, որը մյուսներին իր քաղաքացի է համարում, պետք է ապահովի, որ այդ մարդիկ և քաղաքացիները իրենց ապահով զգան և չլքեն իրենց տարածքը, հողը կամ տները»:
