Ստոլտենբերգը հայտնել է, թե որն է ՆԱՏՕ-ի գլխավոր նպատակը

ՆԱՏՕ-ի գլխավոր նպատակն է կանխել Ուկրաինայում հակամարտության տարածումն այլ երկրների վրա, Die Welt-ին տված հարցազրույցում ասել է ՆԱՏՕ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղար Յենս Ստոլտենբերգը` ընդգծելով, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ն հակամարտության կողմ չէ և իր ստորաբաժանումները չի ուղարկում Ուկրաինա։

ՆԱՏՕ-ի խնդիրն է նվազագույնի հասցնել գլոբալ հակամարտության ռիսկը` զսպման և հավաքական անվտանգության քաղաքականության միջոցով, ասել է նա:
 
«Մենք պետք է ամեն ինչ անենք, որպեսզի Ուկրաինայի հակամարտությունը չտարածվի այլ երկրների վրա։ Ուստի մենք ՆԱՏՕ-ի ոչ մի ուժ չենք ուղարկում Ուկրաինա։ Մենք աջակցում ենք Ուկրաինային, բայց ՆԱՏՕ-ն հակամարտության կողմ չէ»,- ընդգծել է Ստոլտենբերգը։
 
Դաշինքի ղեկավարը նաև նշել է, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ն ուժեղացնում է իր ներկայությունն իր արևելյան թևում։ Նրա խոսքով` Գերմանիան կենտրոնական դեր ունի այս հզորացման գործում։ Ստոլտենբերգը նաեւ նշել է, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ն ոչ մի փոփոխություն չի տեսնում Ռուսաստանի միջուկային ռազմավարության մեջ, ոչ էլ ռուսական միջուկային ուժերի պատրաստվածության բարձրացման նշաններ է տեսնում։
 
Մեկնաբանելով Ֆինլանդիայի և Շվեդիայի՝ ՆԱՏՕ-ին միանալու հնարավորությունը՝ Ստոլտենբերգն ընդգծել է, որ դաշինքին հնարավոր անդամակցության մասին որոշումն ամբողջությամբ պատկանում է Հելսինկիին և Ստոկհոլմին։ Միաժամանակ նա նշել է, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ն երկու երկրներին էլ կընդունի իր շարքերը, եթե նրանք ի վերջո որոշեն անդամակցել դաշինքին։
