Ուկրաինայի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Զելենսկին ապրիլի 23-ին Կիևում կայացած մամուլի ասուլիսում հայտարարել է ՌԴ նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինի հետ հանդիպման պատրաստակամության մասին։ 

«Ես ի սկզբանե պնդել եմ բանակցություններ վարել Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության ղեկավարի հետ, քանի որ կարծում եմ, որ Ռուսաստանի հետ միջնորդների միջոցով հանդիպումների ցանկացած ձևաչափ, կամ բարեկամ երկրների միջոցով այս կամ այն ​​տեղեկությունը Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության ղեկավարին փոխանցելը ցանկալի արդյունք չի տա։ Ես հավատում եմ, որ այս պատերազմը կարող է կանգնեցնել նա, ով սկսել է։ Ես ուզում եմ դադարեցնել պատերազմը, վերջացնել։ Կա դիվանագիտական ​​ուղի, կա ռազմական։ Ցանկացած առողջ մարդ միշտ ընտրում է դիվանագիտական ​​ուղին, քանի որ գիտի, որ եթե նույնիսկ դժվար լինի, այն կարող է դադարեցնել կորուստները»,- ասվել է Զելենսկին:

«Ես չեմ վախենում [Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության] նախագահի հետ հանդիպումից, եթե դուք նկատի ունեք մահափորձերը: Ես ուղղակի իրավունք չունեմ վախենալու, քանի որ մեր ժողովուրդը ցույց է տվել, որ ոչնչից չի վախենում։ Վախենում են իրենց երեխաների համար, դա ճիշտ է: Մարդիկ մերկ ձեռքով կանգնեցնում էին տանկերն ու ռուսական այլ տեխնիկան։ Նորմալ ղեկավարը իրավունք չունի վախենալու, երբ խոսքը գնում է մեր պետության և մեր անկախության մասին»,- հավելել է նա։
