«Bill & Melinda Gates» հիմնադրամը, որը ֆինանսավորում է COVID-19֊ի մի շարք պատվաստանյութերի մշակումը, կարևոր դեր ունի կորոնավիրուսային պատվաստանյութի մշակման գործում: Ամերիկացի ձեռներեց և Microsoft-ի հիմնադիր Բիլլ Գեյթսը երեկ չէ, որ սկսել է միլիոնավոր դոլարներ ներդնել պատվաստանյութերի ստեղծման մեջ, բայց Առողջապահության համաշխարհային կազմակերպության հովանու ներքո նրա կողմից ֆինանսավորվող ծրագրերը երբեմն անվստահություն են առաջացնում: Փորձագետները նշում են, որ Գեյթսի կողմից հովանավորվող պատվաստանյութերը «տխուր վիճակագրություն» ունեն։ Դրանց միջոցով մարդկանց իմունիզացիայի փորձերը բերել են մեծ թվով հաշմանդամությունների, մահերի, անպտղության դեպքերի և այլ բարդությունների: Արդյունքում՝ որոշ մարդիկ սպասում են կորոնավիրուսային պատվաստանյութին՝ նորմալ կյանք վերադառնալու հույսով, մինչդեռ մյուս մասը թաքնված ենթատեքսը է տեսնում այս պատմության մեջ: Bloomberg-ի հետ վերջերս կայացած զրույցի ժամանակ Բիլ Գեյթսը մեկնաբանել է այս՝ «դավադրության տեսության» կողմնակիցներից իրեն առաջադրված մեղադրանքները և խոսել է կորոնավիրուսի դեմ պատվաստանյութի ստեղծման մասին: Ըստ նրա՝ առաջին պատվաստանյութը իդեալական չի լինի վարակի տարածումը վերահսկելու արդյունավետության առումով: «Չարժե այս պատվաստանյութից երկարատև ազդեցություն ակնկալել: Հարուստ երկրները դա կօգտագործեն՝ որպես ժամանակավոր միջոց: Մի շարք այլ պատվաստանյութեր, հավանաբար, կհաստատվեն 2021 թվականին»,֊ասել է Բիլլ Գեյթսը։
