Եթե չլինեին մեր ժողովրդի ազատության ձգտումը, հերոսական պայքարը, Առաջին Հանարապետությունը, չէին լինի նաև Երկրորդ և Երրորդ Հանրապետությունները

Այսօր մենք տոնում ենք Հանրապետության օրը:
Միշտ այն կարծիքին եմ եղել, որ օրվա խորհուրդը և տոնի անվանումն իրար չեն համապատասխանում:
Դարեր շարունակ Հայաստանը զրկված է եղել անկախությունից, և մայիսի 28-ն ավելի շուտ անկախության վերականգնման օր է: Նոր Հանրապետության կառավարման ձևը, ժողովրդավարական ու ընտրական ինստիտուտների նշանակությունն այդ պարագայում երկրորդական նշանակություն են ունեցել:
Առաջին Հանրապետությունն, ըստ էության, ծնունդ է մեզանից դուրս՝ աշխարհաքաղաքական և տարածաշրջանային գործոնների: Ընդամենը երկու և կես տարվա պատմություն ունեցած Հանրապետության վախճանը նույնպես առավելապես հետևանք է արտաքին գործոնների:
Այս հանգամանքն, իհարկե, չի նշանակում, որ մեր ժողովուրդն արժանի չէր անկախությանը, կամ որ՝ Առաջին Հանարապետության էլիտան պատասախանատու չէ անկախության կորստի համար:
Սարդրապատի, Բաշ Ապարանի, Ղարաքիլիսայի ճակատամարտերը ցույց տվեցին, որ մեր ժողովուրդն ունի ազատության, անկախության ձգտում: Ընդ որում, այդ ճակատամարտերը կանխորոշեցին ոչ միայն Հանրապետության ծնունդը, այլ՝ նաև ապահովեցին մեր ժողովրդի անվտանգությունը, սեփական հողի վրա ապրելու նրա իրավունքը: Պատահական չէ, որ Մայիսի 28-ն ավելի շատ ասոցացվում է ոչ թե անկախության, այլ հենց՝ Սարդարապատի, մյուս ճակատամարտերի հետ:
Առաջին Հանրապետության պատմությունը չափազանց հակասական է. Երազանքներ ունեցող, բայց անկախությանն անպատրաստ էլիտա, Մեծ Հայաստանին ձգտող, սակայն իրական հայրենիքի արժեքը չգնահատող քաղաքականություն, բազմաթիվ ներքին և արտաքին պրոբլեմներ, որոնք չարժանացան համակարգային լուծման՝ օբյեկտիվ և սուբյեկտիվ գործոնների պատճառով:
Առաջին Հանրապետության ծնունդն արգասիք է տասնամյակների ազգային-ազատագրական պայքարի, Առաջին Հանրապետության վախճանը հետևանք է հայ ավանդական քաղաքական մտքի սնանկության:
Ազգային մաքսիմալիզմը, որը բնորոշ էր այդ օրերի էլիտային՝ ոչ մի կապ չուներ Առաջին Հանրապետության առջև ծառացած մարտահրավերների հետ:
Իրական հայրենիքի ներքին խնդիրները լուծելու փոխարեն՝ Առաջին հանարապետության հիմնադիրները հետապնդեցին Ազատ, Անկախ Միացյալ Հայաստան ստեղծելու միանգամայն անիրատեսական ծրագիրը: Արդյունքն այն էր, որ նրանք Առաջին Հանրապետության փլատակների վրա խմում էին Սևրի ոչինչ չասող պայմանագրի կենացը:
Այնուամնենայնիվ, Առաջին Հանրապետությունը մեր ազգային երազանքի կարևոր հանգրվանն էր, կառավարման համեմատաբար ժողովրդավարական մոդելի կրող:
Եթե չլինեին մեր ժողովրդի ազատության ձգտումը, հերոսական պայքարը, Առաջին Հանարապետությունը, չէին լինի նաև Երկրորդ և Երրորդ Հանրապետությունները, այսօրվա Հայաստանը:
Մաիսի 28-ն արժևորման և խորհելու օր է, դասեր քաղելու և անցյալին նայելու կարևոր մի ամսաթիվ:
