28 տարի անց. Այսօր Սպիտակի ավերիչ երկրաշարժի տարելիցն է

28 տարի առաջ՝ 1988թ. դեկտեմբերի 7-ին՝ տեղական ժամանակով ժամը 11:41, Հայաստանը ցնցեց Սպիտակի ավերիչ երկրաշարժը: Հզոր ստորգետնյա ցնցումները կես րոպեում ավերեցին հանրապետության գրեթե ողջ հյուսիսային մասը՝ ընդգրկելով մոտ 1 մլն բնակչություն ունեցող տարածք: Երկրաշարժի էպիկենտրոնում՝ Սպիտակում, ցնցումների ուժգնությունը կազմել է 10 բալ (12-բալանոց սանդղակով): Ստորգետնյա ցնցումները զգացվել էին Երեւանում եւ Թբիլիսիում:

Մասնագետների հաշվարկներով՝ երկրաշարժի պահին երկրակեղեւի պատռվածքի գոտուց ազատվել է Հիրոսիմայի վրա նետած ատոմային ռումբի նման 10 ատոմային ռումբի պայթյունին հավասարազոր էներգիա: Երկրաշարժի առաջ բերած ալիքը տարածվել էր ողջ Երկրով եւ արձանագրվել Եվրոպայի, Ասիայի, Ամերիկայի եւ Ավստրալիայի գիտական լաբորատորիաներում:

Պաշտոնական տեղեկություններով՝ զոհվել է ավելի քան 25 հազար մարդ, 19 հազարը հաշմանդամ է դարձել, անօթեւան է մնացել 530 հազար բնակիչ:

Երկրաշարժի հետեւանքով հիմնովին ավերվեց Սպիտակ քաղաքը: Սպիտակի եւ մոտակա գյուղերի հետ մեկտեղ բնության տարերքը ավերեց 21 քաղաք ու ավան, 324 գյուղ, ոչնչացրել Հայաստանի երկրորդ քաղաք Լենինականի (այժմ Գյումրի) բնակելի, սոցիալական եւ արդյունաբերական ֆոնդի 80 տոկոսը: Մեծ ավերածություններ եղան նաեւ մեծությամբ երրորդ քաղաքում՝ Կիրովականում (այժմ Վանաձոր): Երկրաշարժը շարքից հանեց երկրի արդյունաբերական ներուժի մոտ 40 տոկոսը: Այն ժամանակ Հայաստանին օգնության եկավ ողջ աշխարհը:
