Մինչ ծնողները 25 տարի խելագարի նման փնտրում էին անհետացած դստերը,եղբայրը պատմել է, որ իրականում այդ օրն՝ այդ պահին, ներկա է եղել և գիտի թե ինչ է տեղի ունեցել

Մարտան ապրում էր իր ծնողների և եղբոր՝ Դեյվիդի հետ, Ֆլորիդայում։ Նրանք այդքան էլ լավ չէին ապրում, մշտապես ֆինանսական խնդիր կար, ինչն էլ ծնողների միջև մեծ վեճի պատճառ էր հանդիասնում։

Հերթական վեճերից մեկի ժամանակ, երբ հայրը սարսափելի կռիվ սարքեց տանը և սկսեց բղավել կնոջ վրա ու հարվածել, Դեյվիդը վերցրեց քրոջն ու փախավ տից։ Նրանք վազելով գնացին և թաքնվեցին իրենց տան հարևանությամբ գտնվող քոլեջի ետնամասում, մինչև ծնողներն իրենց վեճը կվերջացնեն ու կհանդարտվեն, իսկ մութը կամաց-կամաց վրա էր հասնում։

Պատմության այս պահից սկսած ամեն ինչն ասես առեղծված լինի։ Դեպքը տեղի է ունեցել 1985թ․ երբ Մարտան 7-րդ դասարանի աշակերտուհի էր։ 15-ամյա եղբոր պնդմամբ, նա և քույրը քոլեջի բակում մի պահ կորցրեցին իրար, որից հետո տղան որքան փնտրել է քրոջն, այդպես էլ չի գտել։ Երկար փնտրելուց և Մարտային չգտնելուց հետո, տղան որոշում է վերադառնալ տուն և եղելությունը պատմել ծնողներին, քանի որ արդեն այնքան մութ էր, որ գրեթե ոչինչ չէր երևում։

Առաջին ու հավանական տարբերակն այն էր, որ աղջկան առևանգել են, քանի որ Մարտան տեղանքը շատ լավ գիտեր և հաստատ չէր մոլորվի։ Ոստիկաններն ու հետախույզները հնարավոր ամեն բան արեցի, սակայն աղջկա գտնվելու վայրի մասին նույնիսկ մի նշույլ չգտան, չկար բացարձակ ոչ մի հետք կամ հուշում։

Դեպքից 25 տարի անց Դեյվիդը որոշեք և գնաց ոստիկանություն ու հայտարարեց, որ իրականում նա ներկա է եղել դեպքի ժամանակ և տեսել է, թե ինչպես է քույրն անհետացել։ Երբ նրանք վազելով հասել են քոլեջի բակ, որոշել են մտնել խանութ և իրենց համար կոնֆետներ գնել։ Աղջիկը դատարկելով իր գրպանի պարունակությունը եղբորն ասել է, որ այն բավական չէ կոնֆետ գնելու համար և պահանջել է եղբոր ունեցած գումարը։ Դեյվիդը հրաժարվել է, Մարտան էլ հարվածել է եղբոր դեմքին։ Դեյվիդի պնդմամ, նա մեխանիկորեն հետ է հրել քրոջը, ով ընկնելով՝ գլուխն ուժգին հարվածել է մետաղյա խողովակին և տեղում մահացել։

Դեյվիդը հասկանալով, որ քույրը մահացել է, ձեռքերով և այլ սուր իրերով փոս է փորել և քրոջը թաղել քոլեջի ետնամասում։ Վախենալով ծնողների արձագանքից, այդ գաղտիքը նա ոչ մեկի չի ասել, միայն 25 տարի անց՝ չկարողանալով ապրել այդ մեղքը խղճին, որոշել է գնալ ոստիկանություն և հանձնվել։

Սակայն այս պատմության մեջ ամենազարմանալին այն է, որ Դեյվիդի մանրամասն նկարագրությունից հետո, ոստիկանությունն առանց ժամանակ կորցնելու գնաց այնտեղ, որտեղ տարավ նրանց Դեյվիդն ու ասեց, որ հենց այդտեղ է թաղել քրոջ մարմինը։ Սակայ այդտեղ ոչ միայն համապատասխան հետքեր չկար, այլ նաև փորելուց հետո չգտան նույնիսկ ոսկորի մեկ կտոր։ Նրանք տակնուվրա արեցին ոչ միայն քոլեջի ետնամասը, այլև ողջ շրջակայքը, բայց ապարդյուն։ Այնպիսի տպավորություն էր, որ աղջիկն այդտեղ երբևէ չէր էլ եղել և առհասարակ, այդ տարածքում նման մեկ այլ դեպքի նշաններ էլ չկային։

Դատարանն այդպես էլ մեղավոր չճանաչեց Դեյվիդին, քանի որ ոչ մի ապացույց չկա, որ նա է սպանել քրոջը, առավել ևս թաղել մի վայրում, որտեղ ոչ մի հետք գոյություն չունի։
