3-ամյա Ամելիա Մոլոնին վերջերս լուրջ առողջական խնդիրներ է ձեռք բերել հասարակ ականջօղերի պատճառով։ Աղջնակը շատ է սիրում զատիկներ, ուստի նրա ծննդյան օրը զատիկ ականջօղեր էր նվեր ստացել։ Երեխային զատիկներն այնքան էին դուր եկել, որ երեք օր շարունակ ականջներից չէր հանել դրանք, անգամ այդպես էր անկողին մտել։

Երբ երեք օր անց երեկոյան Ամելիայի մայրը երեխայի մազերը հարդարելիս ցանկացել էր հանել ականջօղերը, նկատել էր, որ ականջը սարսափելի տեսք ունի․ բորբոքված ու արյունոտ է։
